TOLUCA LAKE -- Michael Allan Hakes, 44, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, in Burbank of complications of leukemia.
Born Dec. 31, 1958, in Honolulu, he was a member of the first graduating class at El Camino High School in 1977.
He was a musician, guitarist, sideman, bandleader and composer. He was a guitarist on many TV shows and movies.
Mr. Hakes is survived by his wife, Laura Daley; parents Adrianne Hakes of Oceanside and Gary Lee Hakes of Los Angeles; sisters Carolyn Joanne Beemer and Elizabeth Diane Holmes, both of Oceanside; and brothers Gary Brian Hakes of Honolulu and David Dudley Hakes of Shelbourne, Vt.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at St. Michael's and all the Angels Episcopal Church, 3646 Coldwater Canyon in Studio City.
As a living memorial, the family suggests donations to El Camino High School, 400 Rancho Del Oro Drive in Oceanside for the orchestra and jazz and music programs.
NOTE: Michael Hakes was the driving force behind the creation of Dreamin'. If it weren't for his immense talents, this CD would never have seen the light of day. Thank you Bro! I will never forget you!
